Download This PDF Book: Fundamentals of Biochemistry: Life at the Molecular Level, 5th Edition 5th Edition by Donald Voet , Judith G. Voet , Charlotte W. Pratt
Voet, Voet and Pratt’s Fundamentals of Biochemistry, 5e addresses the enormous advances in biochemistry, particularly in the areas of structural biology and Bioinformatics, by providing a solid biochemical foundation that is rooted in chemistry to prepare students for the scientific challenges of the future.
While continuing in its tradition of presenting complete and balanced coverage that is clearly written and relevant to human health and disease, Fundamentals of Biochemistry, 5e includes new pedagogy and enhanced visuals that provide a pathway for student learning.
The authors are careful to present new information such that it links it to existing content, ever mindful that students assimilate new information only in the proper context.
The enriched assessment content in WileyPLUS Learning Space offers students the opportunity to gauge their conceptual understanding and receive immediate feedback to address misconceptions.
The fifth edition of Fundamentals of Biochemistry includes significant changes and updates to the contents. In recognition of the tremendous advances in biochemistry, we have added new information about prion diseases, trans fats, membrane transporters, signal transduction pathways, mitochondrial respiratory complexes, photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation, nucleotide synthesis, chromatin structure, and the machinery of DNA replication, transcription, and protein synthesis.
New experimental approaches for studying complex systems are introduced, including next generation DNA sequencing techniques, cryo-electron microscopy, metabolomics, genome editing with the CRISPR–Cas9 system, and the role of noncoding RNAs in gene regulation. Notes on a variety of human diseases and pharmacological effectors have been expanded to reflect recent research findings.
About the Author
Donald Voet received a Ph.D. in chemistry from Harvard University and did postdoctoral research in the Biology Department at MIT. Don took up a faculty position in the department of chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, upon completing his postdoctoral work.
He has been a visiting scholar at Oxford University, the University of California San Diego, and the Weismann Institute of Science in Israel.
Judith Voet received her Ph.D. from Brandeis University and did postdoctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania, Haverford College and the Fox Chase Cancer Center.
She taught at the University of Delaware before moving to Swarthmore College. Together with Don Voet, she is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education.
